Jungle Book KIDS

We are thrilled about this awesome opportunity for the kids of Marshall to explore theater locally, and our next show is sure to be amazing! Come join us! You will have a great time working together, learning about theater, and making friends and memories that last a lifetime. This will be a two-week camp where kids ages 6-11 will be the cast members, and kids 12-18 will be crew members. .

The jungle is jumpin' with jazz in this exciting adaptation of the classic Disney animated feature The Jungle Book. Join Mowgli, Baloo, King Louie and the gang as they swing their way through madcap adventures and thwart the ferocious tiger, Shere Khan. Adapted especially for young performers, this musical includes all your favorite Disney tunes, including “The Bare Necessities” and “I Wan'na Be Like You.” With colorful characters and that toe-tapping jungle rhythm, The Jungle Book KIDS is sure to be a crowd-pleaser for all ages.

PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION AND FOLLOW DIRECTIONS FOR AUDITIONING.

Jungle Book KIDS cast members should be kids between 6 and 11 years old. Most roles require singing and dancing, although there are some non-singing and non-dancing roles. Whether it will be fun for them or not will depend on how much work they are willing to put into it. If you have  schedule conflicts, please contact us before auditioning to discuss whether your child will have enough rehearsals to learn their parts.

Parent Meeting and Parent Committees

A parent meeting of cast members will be held on an announced date in person or on Zoom. Please have at least one parent/guardian attend the meeting.

Every production requires much preparation, so all parents of cast members are required to sign up for an area in which they can assist. This is a community theater and its success relies on volunteer involvement of parents, so we need you to help your kids succeed!

Please read all the information, and follow directions for successful auditioning!

Audition Preparation:

  1. Prepare with the script excerpts. You don’t have to have it all memorized, but you need to know it well, so you can demonstrate your acting without worrying about the script. Don't come prepared for one role only, be prepared to read for any of the roles! Here is a list of characters just to get familiar with them.

  2. If you want a dancing part, we might be asking to do a few simple moves so we can see your dancing skills!

  3. Notice, that the song auditions are done by sending us a video, AHEAD OF TIME.

If you are unable attend the auditions and would like to do a video reading for auditions, please email us at marshallkidstheater@gmail.com

Video song auditions:

  1. Prepare a song, and choose about a minute of it, it should be between 30 and 60 seconds. We suggest finding a "karaoke" version on Youtube, so you can use it for the auditions as an accompaniment for your singing. The song can be anything from a musical theatre repertoire, except Jungle Book KIDS. Show us your great stage presence. Act out your song!

  2. For this show we ask that you send a VIDEO of your kid singing the song ahead of the auditions, and it has to be sent before the deadline of May 29.

  3. You can upload your song to YouTube (as unlisted) and send us the link, or you can upload it to your Google Drive or dropbox, and send us a link to marshallkidstheater@gmail.com

Audition Worskop:

  • Audition workshop will be held on Friday May 29th, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm (location will be announced later).

  • Sign up for one slot - click here.

  • Compare your calendar with the rehearsal and performance schedule. List any sure or potential conflicts on your audition application.

  • Kids will be all together in one room, and they will take turns reading from the script. If your child has a hard time reading on the spot, make sure you read with them at home, so they are ready.

  • If you don't have any theater experience, and don't know what to prepare for the auditions, just come as you are, and we'll read from the script together. However, you have a much better chance of being cast for a role if you come prepared, so read the “Audition Preparation” section carefully.

Parents! Make sure your kids come to rehearsals prepared and well fed. Kids should wear comfortable shoes that are easy to dance in, no flip-flops, sandals or crocks.

Work at home:

All cast members are required to work on their lines, songs and dances at home. We will provide all the materials needed, but parents are required to help their children work on their parts and come to the rehearsals prepared. Songs and lines need to be memorized.

Understudies will be assigned, and any actor, who misses rehearsals, doesn't learn their part on time, or has behavioral issues, might loose their role.

Costumes:

Some parts of the costumes will be provided for all cast members, however, there will be some items that will need to be supplied by the students such as shoes, accessories, undergarments, stage make-up items, etc.

Fees:

To cover the tuition, parents are required to secure $250 in sponsorships per family (for cast members only, not for crew). The deadline to turn in donations is June 2nd. If you prefer, you can cover this amount yourself. The sponsorships can be businesses or individuals, or shoutout in the playbill. We will have sponsorship letters, but please reach out if you have trouble finding the sponsors, and we will help.

Parent Involvement:

This is a community theatre, and parent participation is required. The help can come from the parents, guardians, family members, but those working with children directly will need to have a background check.
